The Dubai National Youth Orchestra has announced that it has received an official invitation to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City, marking a historic achievement as the first orchestra in the UAE to receive such an official invitation.
The special concert will be held on June 20, and will be conducted by Jonathan Winter Barrett, the renowned American conductor and composer.
The concert will feature a collaboration with Emirati composer Ihab Darwish, cultural ambassador and founder and president of the Emirates Musicians Association, who will perform one of his signature compositions for the first time in the United States, highlighting the UAE’s rich artistic heritage and cultural aspirations on the stage of one of the world’s most prestigious venues.
This invitation represents a significant achievement for the Dubai National Youth Orchestra, promoting the UAE’s cultural and musical scene globally.
The National Youth Orchestra was founded in Dubai in 2018 and has since grown to include six orchestras with over 200 young members aged 5 to 18 from 30 different nationalities.
This historic occasion will see more than 60 orchestra members perform at Carnegie Hall, alongside two of the United States’ most distinguished youth orchestras from New Jersey and Los Angeles.
This wonderful opportunity highlights the amazing talents of young musicians, as well as being an exceptional chance to perform on one of the world’s most famous stages.
The Dubai National Youth Orchestra also received an invitation to perform at the United Nations Headquarters during its stay in New York, cementing its position as the best youth orchestra in the region.
“This invitation is a testament to the high musical potential of our young musicians,” said Ihab Darwish, the distinguished Emirati composer and founder and president of the Emirates Musicians Association.
“I am honored to present one of my compositions for the first time in the United States to these talented young musicians, who will carry their dreams into Carnegie Hall to realize the ambitious cultural aspirations of the UAE. This exceptional experience will inspire future generations to achieve success.”
For her part, Amira Fouad, co-founder and artistic director of the Dubai National Youth Orchestra, said:
“We are proud to represent the UAE on one of the world’s most prominent stages. This is a pivotal moment to honor the unwavering commitment, tireless efforts, and exceptional musical talent of our youth, allowing them to showcase their potential on a global stage.”
