NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA DUBAI

The National Youth Orchestra of Dubai is the largest and most prestigious youth orchestra in the GCC region. Founded in 2018, the National Youth Orchestra of Dubai has grown to include five orchestras with over 200 students from 30 different nationalities. Co-founded by Ms. Amira Fouad, Artistic Director and led by American Conductor and Composer Mr. Jonathan Barrett, the Orchestra is presented by acclaimed violinist and Co-Founder Ms. Eva Gräsbeck - Head of Strings, Bassoonist Ms. Jackie Hayter - Head of Winds, Cellist Ms. Clara Asuaje – Lower Strings Specialist and Mr. Ronald Vint - Head of Percussion.

The National Youth Orchestra of Dubai nurtures talented young musicians from throughout the UAE, offering weekly repertoire rehearsals with an experienced faculty. The Orchestra performs regularly on the main stage at Dubai Opera and recently had its debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, it is modelled on leading youth and children's orchestras across the world.

OUR HISTORY

The National Youth Orchestra of Dubai (NYO) was founded in 2018 and today, it’s the largest and most prestigious youth orchestra in the region, boasting over 160 members from over 25 countries, aged 5-18. It has performed over 25 large scale performances at Dubai Opera.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE NYO
Since 2018s: Since its early years the NYO has performed at top venues across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including Dubai Opera, The Theatre at MOE, Al Hosn Palace, Emirates Palace, and Global Village for the UAE’s 50th Golden Jubilee.

Collaborations
The National Youth Orchestra of Dubai (NYO Dubai) has had several notable collaborations and workshops with top artists and orchestras since its inception in 2018.

International Collaborations
NYO Dubai has worked with renowned orchestras and artists, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh National Opera Orchestra and The London Mozart Players.

From 2018 – Masterclasses and Workshops
The orchestra has hosted masterclasses with prestigious organizations and performers, such as the Ayoub Sisters and Piers Lane, the Welsh National Opera Orchestra and London Mozart Players.

Their musicians receive instruction from professional tutors and clinicians and participate in sectional rehearsals and individual instruction.

Carnegie Hall Performance
NYO Dubai is set to make history as the first UAE orchestra to perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall on June 20, 2025, featuring a collaboration with Emirati composer Ihab Darwish.

Local Performances
NYO Dubai regularly performs at top venues in Dubai.

2023 | Gala Concert 
The NYO held a gala concert at Dubai Opera on June 11, 2023, showcasing their musical talents.

2024 | Spring Concert 
On March 2, 2024, the NYO performed at a sold out Dubai Opera’s Studio as part of the Global Notes concert series, featuring classical favourites and modern hits, including Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

2024 | The Snowman Festive Concert
On November 23, 2024, the NYO presented a magical evening of festive favorites at a capacity Dubai Opera, accompanied by a screening of the beloved animated film “The Snowman”.

The NYO continues to thrive, providing young musicians with opportunities to develop their skills and perform alongside renowned artists. Their commitment to continued excellence and cultural diversity has solidified their position as a leading youth orchestra in the region.
